Scallions, also known as green onions, or bunching
onions, and refer to a distinct type of immature onions. They have a white
base that has not fully developed into a bulb and green leaves that are long
and straight. Both parts are edible. Store in the refrigerator, wrapped for
up to five days. They can be eaten raw or cooked in numerous dishes from
soups to salads.
Nutrition: Onions have been linked to reduced
cancer risk and may help quell asthma symptoms. Rich in allylic sulfur
compounds and quercitin, a heart disease and cancer-fighting compound.
Like all our vegetables, our Scallions are grown
using sustainable methods: lots of organic compost. Onions tend to be
naturally pest free, so they generally don't even require a soap spray in
our garden beds.
