Organic Tomato Transplants

We are offering a limited number of organically grown tomato transplants through Rocky Mountain Natural Store.

All of our transplants will come to you in 1-gallon sized pots and are hardened off and ready to plant. Our pots are made of compressed recycled paper. For our potting soil we use coir (shredded coconut husks) that is more environmentally sensitive than peat moss as it does not deplete peat bogs. We also feed all our transplants a balanced organic fertilizer.

We recommend watering with a kelp soil drench after transplanting. (A local source for kelp is Rick's Garden Center). To prevent transplant shock, you can plant the tomatoes in these pots. Using a sharp knife, cut off the bottom, slit the sides and tear off the top at soil level, and plant the whole pot.

Plants available:

Variety Days to Maturity Type Description
Cosmonaut Volkov 68 Indeterminate-Needs staking This strangely-named Ukrainian tomato wins taste test after taste test. Simply put, for rich, deep, true tomato taste, Cosomonaut Volkov is the best-tasting tomato in our own and other trials. Has that perfect blend of sweet and tart, with a rich complexity that has you savoring the flavor long after you’ve swallowed it. Does have some cracking and yellow shoulders, but not nearly as badly as Brandywine.

DePinto 75 Indeterminate-Needs staking Excellent sauce tomato. Red Paste tomato that is very solid on vines that are truly loaded with fruit. Need extra staking.

Fox Cherry 80-90 Indeterminate-Needs staking Tall vines bears large, red cherry tomatoes. One of the best cherry tomatoes we've grown. Rich in flavor and a prolific producer.

Millie Yoder's Little Grape 80 Indeterminate-Needs staking This is a wonderful little grape shaped cherry tomato from an Amish grower. This little cutie pie has a great taste and produces a very nice crop of tomatoes.

Mini-Orange 75 Indeterminate-Needs staking Medium length vines produce an abundance of miniature orange tomatoes, 1-1/2" in diameter. A distinctive feature of 'Mini Orange' is its bright orange color. Mix this variety with red, yellow and green cherry tomatoes to make attractive salads. Flavor is mild and slightly tangy. Firm fruits offer good resistance to fruit worm. Ripens from green to yellow to orange.

Siletz 70-75 Determinate-Needs short staking (30-36 in.) Siletz is one of the most reliable slicing tomatoes you can grow, with 4-5 inch deep red fruit that weight up to 1 pound. The flavor-packed red tomatoes are nearly seedless. Expect several bursts of ripe tomatoes as the season progresses. Vigorous, determinate plants.
